Super Bowl Week is Here!

Well the Pro Bowl has wrapped up and it’s that time of the year again, Super Bowl week! This year promises to be a great matchup between the last two undefeated teams in the league, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints will most likely be the sentimental favorite as they represent the city of New Orleans. This will be the franchise’s first appearance in the Super Bowl after a tough history. The team once known as “The Ain’ts” will attempt to make their city proud nearly 5 years after their stadium was used to house those who had lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. The city of New Orleans will certainly be a big story leading into this game, but there also are the players that got them to this game. Players like Drew Brees, who is the number one ranked quarterback in the league, will be heavily relied on by his team. Along with Drew, the Saints will try to keep the Colts on their toes with their very diverse attack. The Saints had 21 different players score this year, which set an NFL record, and hope this balance can lead them to victory. However, a victory won’t be the easiest for the Saints as the Colts are no slouches themselves.

The Colts are getting ready to wrap up a season that saw them go 14-0, before pulling their starters in the second half of the 15th game against the New York Jets. The Colts will attempt to win their second Super Bowl in four years. In an odd coincidence, this game is being played in the same stadium as their last Super Bowl where they defeated the Chicago Bears four years ago, and the Colts are hoping for some of the same luck. Led by league MVP, Peyton Manning, the Colt offense is sure to come out swinging on Sunday in an effort to take advantage of a weak Saints defense that gave up 28 points to Minnesota.

In this postseason New Orleans has been able to get a few good shots on Minnesota quarterback, Brett Favre, and Arizona quarterback, Kurt Warner, shaking them up enough to take wins in both games. Saints defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, has come out promising more of the same, stating that his defense would give a couple “remember me” shots to Manning. However, the Colts have one of the best offensive lines in league, giving up the fewest number of sacks this season with 13, so that will certainly be an interesting storyline to follow.

This has the makings of a very good game and most likely a shoot out. When you have two of the best quarterbacks in the league in the same game, you’re certainly looking at outrageous passing numbers and most likely a high scoring game. Super Bowl XLIV is a game not to be missed.
